OR YOUR MONEY BACK

Directed by Ivan Belo

My second project as a script supervisor, Or Your Money Back, was a fun challenge and contrast from my previous one. The pace was fast, the details endless, and being on set was exciting. I was running on very little sleep. My greatest obstacle came in the form of sleep deprivation – I remember constantly second-guessing on a day I slept poorly, wondering if I could keep up with the demands of the role.

But in the middle of that pressure, I learned firsthand what I was taught in my script supervision classes. That being a script supervisor is not just about staying present, but staying grounded even when everything feels overwhelming. I focused on supporting the team, staying calm, and doing my best moment by moment.

Though I felt my inexperience betray me, the feedback I received said otherwise. The team told me that I was the best script supervisor they had worked with because I was considerate and supportive, asserting effectively as a ‘scripty’ without being pushy. Hearing that shifted my perspective. It reminded me that even in moments of self-doubt, how I step up matters just as much as the technical side of the job.

THE FEED Film

Written and Directed by Jack McCullagh

My first project, THE FEED, had a much smaller crew, which meant I carried more responsibilities, including tracking wardrobe. It was the first time I was able to apply everything I learned from BCIT about script supervision. Midways through the 14-day shoot, I got sick and ended up missing three days, which made me realize how essential it is for a script supervisor to stay well as even a short absence creates gaps that are difficult to fill as production goes on.

The newbie that I am, I thought I had to make myself more visible as the script supervisor, but I was happy to learn that everyone who’s ever worked on a set recognized how important the script supervisor’s role is. Despite the long hours and constant movement, the work felt like a natural fit for me. Each day demanded focus, but each day also felt worth it.
